In Vitro Antimicrobial Efficacy Assessment of Ethanolic and Aqueous Extracts of Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Verum) Bark against Selected Microbes

To combat pathogens and reduce the major public health problem of antibiotic residues in animal products, scientists are looking for natural substitutes that effective against drug-resistant pathogenic microbes spoilage fungi. The antimicrobial activity three Cinnamomum verum extracts prepared with different solvents (absolute ethanol, 50% aqueous extracts) was determined two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus Listeria monocytogenes) Gram-negative (Salmonella Typhimurium Escherichia coli) as well fungal strains. activities various selected were evaluated using disc diffusion test, minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC), bactericidal (MBC), fungicidal (MFC), poisoned food technique. bark (CVB) inhibited killed microbial growth to varying degrees. Our findings also revealed alcoholic solvents, particularly absolute ethanol-CVB extract, more active compared suggesting cinnamon plant is a promising agent preservation.
